Legislative Updates: Wayne Plemmons- New Gold and Fish book committee will meet again November 7th to review the rules and comments presented at the October 3rd meeting. As before, the main problem was the work windows, much of the testimony was directed at the work windows and the problems the prospectors have with the later opening dates for dredging. The public comment period is over, and if a decision cannot be made, or if it is unreasonable and unworkable, another 180 day period will be used to come up with an acceptable book of rules & windows to work from. If that doesn’t happen we start over, and go back to the 1999 Gold and Fish Book for next year.
Old Business:
Ocean Shores Outing. Several members who attended noted that they had been contacted by the DFW and DNR to get their comments about the Ocean Shores Outing. Members said that gold was very limited and that a stream feeding into the ocean from the mountains would be alot better. Members also heard comments from the state that they (DNR & FWC) could not see any evidence of the 38 small gold prospectors even being on the beach.
