What happened at the last meeting
Snowball's Chance Outing
By Sandy Caldwell
The meeting was held at the snowball*s Chance claim site. We had approximately 40 people in attendance. The weather was perfect and we all had a great time.
This was my first outing ever and I had the best time. It was so much fun getting to know people outside of the meetings. Rob and the others who planned this outing did a great job. It was a lot of work and I appreciate it very much. Also I appreciate Don and Jody Kirst for sharing their claim with us. Thank you so much.
We got there about 9:00 am on Saturday and after unloading the firewood and getting our stuff unloaded we headed for the creek. Getting down to the creek was an adventure in itself. When we reached the creek we found it was well worth the trip down the hill. What a beautiful setting. We spent the morning doing some panning and finding a speck or two, but having a great time. Finding gold is only part of the fun. Everyone spread out and found *their* special spot. Some people weren*t seen till lunch.
After lunch everyone was *HOT* so we had the meeting early so we could get back down to the creek and into the shade. The meeting was short and to the point.
The Christmas potluck was discussed with a reminder that it is 1 week earlier than usual on Dec. 5 and 1 hour earlier at 12:00. Food sign up sheets will be at the Oct. and Nov. meetings. Also it was announced that the Stanton AZ outing in Dec. has been cancelled. And the info for the Waddle Creek outing will be posted on our website. After the meeting, everyone headed for the creek or the shade of nearby trees.
After everyone was done prospecting for the day, there were some special activities planned. We had metal detector competition with GOLD as the prize. Of course we did not bring our detector. But those that did had a good time.
Dinner was great and after dinner we had the Old Tyme Prospectors look alike contest. Lots of fun and laughter. Then some special visitors in the form of Hawaiian prospectors taught a group of volunteers, a hula dance. So much fun to watch.
The chapter earned $330.00 from the auction held on Sunday- Proceeds will be used to purchase club claims
