2009: A Year of Building thanks to VOLUNTEERS!
Yes, 2009 is almost over and boy has it been busy! Just imagine, a short two years ago we did not exist as an organization and now we are wrapping up 11 monthly meetings, 10 gold prospecting outings, a 3 day GPAA Gold Show, the filming of GOLD FEVER, one Birthday Party and an upcoming Christmas Party.
Not bad…..….not bad at all.
All of this could not have been accomplished without the help of key people like Lonny, Biz, John D, Bela, Coleen, Don K, Wayne and Dannie. And then there is Sandy Caldwell who is the backbone of the organization. Sandy makes sure there is a monthly newsletter, maintains the membership lists and is the brains behind the web site. A Huge debt of gratitude is extended to her. THANK YOU!
We would be remise if we did not extend a word of thanks to all the members who made presentations to the club throughout the year: Survival Training-Ray, Backpack items-Ellis Family, Reading a Map-Glenn, Washington Mining Laws-Chuck, Mining Packets-Dan and Map Reading & GPS Training-Chuck. Are there more members to give thanks? Yes, Richard H keeping us up to speed on legislative activities, Dannie D dealing with the banner and T-Shirts and a whole host of volunteers who on a couple of hours notice helped with the filming of “GOLD FEVER” with Tom Massie. Special thanks should be extended to John D, our Treasurer, who keeps the finances in line and Coleen for organizing the monthly raffle.
Have we missed giving thanks to others who helped us grow this year? Yes, so here is a big THANK YOU to all of you who made it possible that were not mentioned here!
Rob Matthews
Chief Volunteer.

Here's some of the expert's thoughts on mistakes to avoid when Gold Panning and Prospecting.
To quote them on their suggestions...
1. Not digging deep enough
2. Not seasoning your gold pan
3. Investing in heavy equipment too soon.
4. Failing to do enough sample panning
5. Not checking your tailing closely
6. Not being patient enough and panning too quickly
7. Not fully cleaning your equipment before moving to another area (causing samples to become tainted)
8. Not putting water in your pan before adding gravels.
9. Not knowing what to do when you do find gold.
And my personal favorite --
10. Not spending enough time prospecting when gold was at $200 and ounce
