A Message From Our President
We closed out our 2011 season with our annual Christmas potluck. There were about 60 members in attendance. The food was great, as well and the conversation.
The year of 2011 was a very busy year for our club. We began with a new Vice-President, Kim Knise. Kim was very active, and was a great help to me, not only in conducting meetings, but at the outings as well., I thank him very much for his help and want him to know that he is really missed. Hopefully, one day he can rejoin our ranks.
Bob Nelson did a great job as outings director. He set up outings from April through October. There was a lot of members attending the outings, learned a lot, had a great time, and some even found a little color. Thank you Bob.
Rich, our claims director, had surgery that has laid him up for most the year. I hope and pray that he will fully recover and return to our ranks. I want to given special thank you to Don and Jodi Kirst for so graciously opening up their claim to our club. I understand we have been invited back for two outings next year. Thank you so very much.
Our annual outing at Blue Bucket is on hold for 2012, as the claim has been shut down. Do not fear, I will be hosting the Chapter Outing at Burnt River. There are no hookups for RV, but there is a dump station, water for refilling the tanks, and showers on site. And, I understand they got into some good color this year. I will be going, and I hope to have a good turnout. I will be limiting the number for 2012, and 2011 Blue Bucket was a little large for me to handle.
On the dark side, we had a couple of undesirable fellows in out ranks. Once their past was learned, the were no longer welcome. We must be vigilant and protect our young people.
I will be missing the January meeting due to surgery. As we do not have a Vice President, the Treasurer will be handling the meeting. It is imperative that a Vice President be elected.
As I said at the November meeting, I cannot do this alone, nor will I do it alone. We needed a claims director as Bob Nelson wanted a rest. It took a lot of prodding before anyone would volunteer. Thankfully Ray Price volunteers, as his health will allow. He will need a helping hand from many, and I sincerely hope he gets that help. Our club has been remiss in stepping up for the jobs that need to be done. If this club is to continue to be a success, we must have more cooperation.
For the February meeting, I am planning on holding a metal detector contest. We had so many last time that I will expand the area to accommodate as many as want to compete. There will be some rules to follow. As before, there were sections that each held two coins. Each contestant must find both coins in the first section before he/she can move the next. I will need volunteers to help marshal the event. I will come up with something nice for the top three places.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
