What’s Up Doc for the First Quarter of 2010?
By Rob Matthews
Well believe it or not, we are going to be busy having FUN!
In January, we start our new Social Hour immediately following our Chapter Meeting. It will be held at The Family Inn located at 2386 Colchester Drive East in Manchester which is a couple of minutes east of Elim Church. All those wishing to come, sit around a fireplace, throw darts, grab a bite to eat and/or drink and engage in stimulating conversation are welcome.
Going Once, Going Twice—Gone….that is the theme for February. Yes, you guessed it right! We are having our first real Club Auction-Fundraiser at our February 13th meeting. All items are accepted including houses, boats, RV’s, Planes, Trains, Pre-Paid Trips, etc. etc. Kidding aside, we are asking everyone to bring items to auction off to generate revenue for the Club to purchase additional claims throughout Western Washington to make gold prospecting accessible to the membership. Please register the items you plan to bring to the auction on the message board. Please go to and click on “Chapter Business”. From there, please click on “Auction Items-Register Them Here!” and enter the under in the Quick Reply Box and then hit “Reply”.
We are keeping the ball rolling going into March with 3 events. Yes, I did say 3 events. We start the month off with a maintenance and cleanup effort at our 2 Red Bird Claims in Sequim on Saturday, March 6th from 9AM to 5PM. How about camping at Sequim Bay State Park Friday and Saturday Nights? The following weekend is our Chapter Meeting and Social Hour followed by the “Main Event”.
You may ask “What’s the Main Event”? It’s the National GPAA Gold Show March 20th & 21st in Puyallup at the Fairgrounds. We need volunteers on the 19th to help setup and assistance on the 21st to tear down. Volunteers are also needed during the show to man the WWGPAA Booth and sell Raffle Tickets and T-Shirts. Is that all? The answer is no. On Saturday night we have invited Tom and Cindy Massie and the staff of the GPAA to a Pot Luck Dinner sponsored by the club. More to follow about these activities.
Busy…..Yes, but we have only just begun because in April we start our first of 8 planned outings for the year.
I am looking forward to 2010 and seeing you all at the activities.
